About TvSubtitles
Are you familiar with the small lines of text that appear at the bottom of the screen commonly seen in today's movies? This has been applied in a variety of settings, from the movies you view at home on your ordinary network to free online movies and movies at the theatre. Have you ever paused to consider how they are made?
Subtitles for movies and TV shows are generated by a committed subtitle community all around the world. Translating, creating text, timing, converting, and publishing are only a few of the tasks needed in subtitling a single film. Despite the fact that this is a laborious and back-breaking task (since they must sit for extended periods), many volunteers agree to do it for free. These professionals work tirelessly every day to ensure that you have access to subtitled films and that deaf and hearing-impaired persons are treated equally.
So, why do they do it of their own will, you might wonder? This is purely to give back to the community. They think that everyone should have access to high-quality amusement, knowledge, news, innovation, and personal growth. No one should be excluded because of a birth defect they have or their background circumstances. When it comes to making this material, they aim to make everyone equal.
These people play a significant function since many items lose their efficacy when the movies are not subtitled. Consider what would happen if you didn't have a subtitle for the video or movie you were viewing. You could miss a word since the content isn't in your native tongue, or the narrators spoke too quickly. People who have hearing loss or disability will face an even more serious problem. Their chances of entering the realm of knowledge will be reduced. As you can see, subtitles overcome the challenges that language and personal circumstances generate.
This is why many individuals willingly volunteer to translate films and videos for free. We should congratulate and thank them for their efforts, as they deserve it. This is also why we should promote subtitle websites where all subtitles are gathered, sorted, and structured as free subtitles resources for everyone. The majority of these websites are produced by enthusiastic individuals who get together to form a dynamic subtitle community in order to continue the benevolent voluntary effort.
Today, we'll take a look at TVsubtitles. It is a dedicated community of subtitlers with claims to have a large number of movies in a variety of languages. They offer all of the subtitles for free and many more features. Let's take a look at it.
Is TvSubtitles free to use?
Yes, TvSubtitles is free to use. You can find subtitles for your favorite TV shows and movies in many languages.
Design and content
My first impression of this website is that it is in a light theme with the main colour palette is white, black, green and blue, just like other subtitle sites I have reviewed. The search bar and the menu are right below the headline. You can click each button on the menu bar to get directly to Home, TV shows, New subtitles, Top subtitles, Add new subtitles, Send feedback and Movies subtitles. TVsubtitles.net has a language filter near the menu bar with up to 24 languages and the languages themselves include but are not limited to Korean, Spanish, Turkish, English, French, Italian, Greek, Arabic, German, Danish and Polish,…
Scrolling down you will see a list of subtitles ordered from the latest updates. One of the things that stands out about this site is that there are various languages of subtitles uploaded and they are all up to date. On the right side of this main table is the site statistics table. At the time of this review, the site has nearly 300,000 total subtitles, 2168 TV shows, 67,656 TV episodes and 489,927,298 downloads. Like other sites, English accounts for the largest subtitles and downloads, about 59,007 and 186,9 million respectively
TV Shows List
To be honest, this page is the worst because when you get access to it, you will be directed to a table where all of the files uploaded are shown and these files’ names are bizarre strings of letters, symbols and numbers. They look like a scam and you don’t want to click on them because it may harm your device.
Movies List
The movie list is better than the TV shows lists but it redirects you to another website called msubs.net. This website looks similar to TVsubs.net though. The layout is much better than the other lists with thumbnails of the movie posters, date added, number of downloads, links to downloads,…
Inner subtitles pages
When you click on any movie subtitles links on the home page, you will be redirected to its inner page where you can see there is some information about the movies and the files you are about to download. You will get to know the episode title, episode number, RIP, release, comment, filename, size, upload date, number of downloads, reports, rating and the download button.
Compared to other subtitle sites, this site lack information about the movie and TV series themselves. Other sites would have a thumbnail of the movie posters and the summary with names of casts while TVsubtitles have none.
Ads
This is what I most dislike about the website. There are many ads that give me the impression that it is scammy and unsafe to download content on here. Ads are everywhere on this website, from the homepage to the inner pages. The download page also has an ad that is hidden under a big highlighted download button which makes people very easy to click on because they mistake it with the real subtitle download button at the bottom of the page.
Mobile version
If the mobile version of TVsubs.net is too small that you have to zoom out every time you load the page, the mobile version of TVsubtitles.net is the opposite. This website is too big that when you get access to it, you will only see a fraction of the website. So every time you refresh or click on any inner pages, you will need to pinch your finger to zoom out. As you can see, if this process happens every time you load the page, it will waste your whole day just to find a subtitle file to download (let alone having to close every single ad you accidentally click on…)
Negatives
I think this site is quite carelessly designed and is not a good site for subtitles. The design is ok but not very effective because it lacks sort and filter features. Moreover, there are too many ads and bizarre file names. The library content is also not that big so consistent uploads are encouraged.
