Stan

Can you relate to the sense of being unable to keep up with the buzz surrounding something and therefore missing the bandwagon? That was my experience with Stan, a popular Australian streaming service. 

I, like many of you, was a Netflix fanatic until I heard about Stan. I wasn't eager for this streaming service at first; to be honest, I didn't think it was worth it, let alone competing with Netflix's content. But after giving Stan some time, I could understand what all the fuss was about. When I reflect on that time, I realize that I shouldn't have been so dismissive of this streaming service in the first place.

Design

I'm a perfectionist when it comes to the user interface. I don't know about you, but when it comes to searching for material, the online interface is a decisive factor for me. Stan's UI is really user-friendly, which I appreciate. It takes less than a minute to join up, and the overall look is appealing.

More than the style, I enjoy how they've organized the categories, which makes exploring and selecting information much easier. Movies, television, and children's programming are all well-defined categories. Basic drop-down menus enable you to explore among sub-genres, photos, and titles, and they are complimented with simple drop-down menus.

After you've decided what you want to watch, you'll be given a brief overview of each episode, as well as information on the cast and genre. If you haven't made up your mind yet, you may still navigate up and down and view the page without difficulty.

Content

Although there is no flex, stan.com.au does feature a large collection with over thousands of hours of movies and shows. Despite the fact that their content generation capability is nothing like that of Netflix, their collection is nonetheless extremely large.

They hold exclusive rights to their material from multiple worldwide companies, including Paramount, Showtime, and Sony Pictures, which is why you can watch big-known programs like Games of Throne, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Yellowstone, Doctor Who, Orphan Black, Dexter, and Californication, to name a few.

Janet King, Jack Irish, and Rake are among the top ABC TV programs available on Stan.com.au. If you have a general look at its movie and television library, you'll see that it has something for everyone. From comedic classics like Frontline, F.r.i.e.n.ds, and We Can Be Heroes to new American shows like iZombie, Billions, Younger, and All American, there's something for everyone. 

Desktop/Mobile Experience

My first encounter with Stan was fantastic. Its user-friendly design makes browsing material a breeze. I was able to discover the show I was seeking quickly and effortlessly connect to my TV using Google Chromecast. I could view the HD quality material without any latency issues as soon as I started playing the content. The video didn't lag at all, and there was very little buffering.

What I liked best about Stan's app was a counter that indicated how many episodes of a given program I had already seen. Along with this detailed function, I was drawn to the Auto-playing consecutive episodes option. All of this combined resulted in a pleasant watching experience.

However, things weren't perfect at first. Stan experienced compatibility concerns while trying to connect TVs in 2016, I recall. Moreover, regarding Chromecast or Apple TV video streaming services, an Android or iOS smartphone was required to view the content collection back then.

However, after the advent of the Stan app, everything has changed. Connection/casting is no longer an issue because you can watch streaming services on your PS3, PS4, or Apple TV without any additional hardware. Directly on your TV, you may browse the multimedia catalogue. In my perspective, paying attention to small details like these makes a big difference in the user-friendliness of the app.

Streaming Quality

In general, the video quality given by streaming providers these days is relatively typical. The current standard is 4K Ultra HD. I have a 32Mbps connection, which allows me to have a pleasant movie viewing experience. To stream Stan properly with an SD playback, you will need 4Mbps at least and up to 8 to 16Mbps for HD and 4K Ultra HD quality, respectively.

Stan, like other streaming applications, may modify the quality of its content based on the internet connection. Based on my own experience, I wouldn't recommend using the app if your internet is slow since it will be quite annoying. When it comes to picking the resolution, you may do it in the player view by selecting the quality. Also, if you're casting the material to your TV, you'll want to go for the HD or 4K version for the best viewing experience.

Pricing and deals

I enjoy streaming services that provide no obligations and an all-you-can-eat concept. This sort of strategy and price structure has had a lot of success all around the world. The simplicity of Stan's design is its greatest asset. It features a three-tiered price structure. First, an entry-level package for a single device costs $10 per month. Second, the basic package starts at $14 per month and gives you access to HD video on three devices. You may also pay $17 per month for a premium subscription that lets you watch material in 4K Ultra HD on four devices, which is one fewer than Netflix's five.

Before we go any further, I'd want to point out that, in comparison to Netflix, Stan offers a limited amount of 4K video. As a result, if 4K Ultra HD quality is the bare minimum you're looking for, I'd recommend watching a few episodes before committing to a subscription. Also, make sure you're on an unlimited or low-cost internet plan, because data use and quality may easily build up without you realizing it.

You should, in my view, test the free trial for 30 days and judge it yourself. If you believe the information on Stan is valuable to you, you may begin with a $10/month entry-level package. It takes less than a minute to sign up, and you can start streaming in less than two minutes.

Suggestions that I have for the site

I'd want to encourage the devs to continue pushing for more original material. Though it is now Australia's preferred streaming service, a minor loss in freshness is all it takes for it to go out of favour. Furthermore, blockbuster material is required to help Stan reach a worldwide audience.

Finally, I'd want to thank Stan for his outstanding customer service. I experienced a technical problem with the streaming service a few months ago, and it was frozen. I shoot them an email and received a prompt response. They not only solved my issue, but they also gave me advice on how to prevent it from happening again.
