Hulu

You may have heard of Hulu before and chances are you have friends or have used it. With over 25 million US customers, this internet behemoth is tied for second place with Amazon as the most popular premium streaming platform.

Hulu was established by News Corporation and NBC Universal in 2007. A year later, Hulu.com was founded as a place to watch free ad-supported television. Hulu Plus, a commercial-free plan, and a Live TV bundle have all been introduced in the years thereafter.

In 2011, Hulu became a TV and movies streaming site. With its original series The Handmaid's Tale, it became the first streaming service to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2017. It now offers a library of 70,000 television episodes, including original series and films.

Disney bought Hulu in 2019, which bodes well for their future. More popular movies that you are familiar with are aired on Hulu, and they'll keep producing award-winning original material. Everyone can stream the content of their choice with up to 6 individuals per account.

Content library

This is Hulu’s greatest feature because it has hundreds of TV series, many of which are added the day after they appear on networks like ABC, NBC, and Comedy Central on live television. While Hulu offers most newer episodes of a program, it doesn't always have complete seasons — for example, ABC's Grey's Anatomy only has the current season and none of the previous seasons accessible to view. Some series, on the other hand, is complete. Others, such as the BBC's Killing Eve, did release whole seasons after they have aired.

Hulu also has a large selection of movies. It sometimes obtains fresh releases that other streaming services don't, such Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Parasite, the 2020 Best Picture winner.

Pricing

If you often use Hulu — or if you've become accustomed to Netflix's no-ads approach and can't bear commercials — the recently increased price, $7 per month, is certainly well worth it to watch episodes without interruption. It raises the pricing to nearly equal that of Netflix's regular plan ($13 for Hulu vs. $14 for Netflix).

Another significant benefit of the no-ads concept is the lack of advertisements. It's the only method to get shows to view later while you're not connected to the internet. Hulu won't allow you to download shows for offline streaming, unlike Netflix.

However, if you're merely viewing a show or movie on TV from time to time, especially a shorter comedy, you may save money by watching the ad for a few seconds longer.

Design

Hulu makes it simple to use their platform. You may immediately start watching a show you didn't finish or discover something new after logging in. You may look through anything by scrolling through the pre-made lists of recommendations based on shows you've already seen. Despite the fact that other platforms are headed in that route, Hulu does it incredibly effectively, mixing live TV alternatives alongside their content collection. This feature is one of my favourites since it provides the platform's divided content with a sense of continuity.

In terms of content and presentation, the Hulu app seems the same on my Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV Stick. Positive

First is the fact that Hulu offers a massive collection with something for everyone. Every member of my family has a different taste of entertainment, but we all enjoy Hulu. If anyone misses their shows, they can always watch them on-demand the next day.

It's also shockingly simple to find what you're looking for. To search the library, simply click the large magnifying glass at the top of the screen. The search is speedy, as you'd expect from a premium service, and it provides recommendations if they don't have a precise title.

You can package a lot of material now that Disney has acquired Hulu. Hulu Basic, ESPN+, and Disney+ are all available for $13 per month. So, even if you can't locate something on one platform, you still have a few possibilities for finding the next film.

To obtain tailored suggestions and watch lists for various family members or others on a single account, and you can add a maximum of 6 users to your Hulu account. To help the AI's recommendation, give series and movies a thumbs up or down. Hulu also lets you know what movies and episodes are coming out in the next month, as well as which ones are about to expire, which Netflix does not.

The next good thing that Hulu offers parents is parental control. 

When I was seeking a Hocus Pocus alternative, I was logged into my profile. The suggested movies for Huluween would have given me nightmares if I had kids who were too young for Rated-R. Last but not least, I adore the remote app. You can stream the whole Hulu library from your phone to your TV using the Hulu app. You'll need a Chromecast linked to your television, but if you already have one, you can use it to operate Hulu without having to sign in on your television.

Negatives

Hulu's 4K Ultra HD video catalogue is increasing, and it already contains the majority of Hulu Originals, but it still lags behind Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney Plus. On some devices, Hulu viewers can now watch select Hulu Originals in HDR, including HDR10, HDR10 Plus, and Dolby Vision. This is useful since we've discovered that HDR really improves picture quality by more than 4K resolution, especially on a decent TV. Hulu's 4K stream is accessible on most major 4K TV streamers, including Roku and Amazon Fire TV, as well as Apple TV 4K, LG, Samsung, and Vizio Chromecast Ultra smart TVs, and Xbox consoles.

The ads are annoying. Everyone knows this. I realize that advertisements are an undeniable component of live television. However, I expect minimal disruptions if I pay a monthly price to access Hulu's digital collection. Shows have far too many advertisements. Try streaming Hulu on a PC with AdBlocker if you really want to realize how annoying the advertisements are. Instead of skipping commercials, Hulu has you sit in quiet throughout what would otherwise be a commercial. If you're anything like me, you grew up with the internet. I'm not used to having to pay for things or watch advertisements. On all of my gadgets, I have ad blockers installed to protect me from the harsh reality of live television. So having my experience constantly interrupted by commercials was enough to convince me to switch to Premium. Allow me to conclude by stating this. Hulu is a fantastic service. My gripes with Hulu are almost certainly the product of contract negotiations. However, in my opinion, simplicity of use and user experience is quite important.
