About MangaGo

There are many websites to read manga out there and Mangago.me is one of them. Mangago claims to be a non-profit manga fan site where people can stream different genres of manga free of charge and with high quality. Moreover, users and visitors can ask questions and discuss with each other anything on the website. Established around 2010, Mangago is still going strong and providing its millions of users a safe platform to stream free manga.

Is Mangago safe?

In general, I find this website safe. When I landed on Mangago’s homepage and read manga as a visitor, I didn’t see any ads or pop-ups, which make the reading experience more enjoyable. The site has a login section but you don’t have to register to read manga, you only need that to create a thread, ask a question, and comment on people’s posts. Cyber risks are one of the main problems we face these days as the Internet is exploding. Banning ads, and pop-ups and not forcing people to register before reading manga will actually prevent users from leaking personal contacts and information or being scammed. To further protect yourself online, you should use a reliable VPN, AdBlock, and antivirus scan.

Is Mangago legal?

Mangago uploads both other people’s manga with credit and their original manga. The fact that the site has been running well since 2010 is a sign that it has no red flags and is legal. Regarding the users, you need to ask for permission from Mangago if you want to download or post its original work somewhere else. Plus, reading manga online is not illegal but downloading and sharing pirated files are. Please stream manga with this in mind.

Mangago review

Content library

From rare gems to newly released manga, Mangago has them all available for you to read. They have more than 180k ongoing and completed manga including yaoi, historical, and fantasy. You can even find some of the most popular titles like One Piece, Doraemon, Conan, and Naruto on here. However, some of these are not full if you want to read from the start. According to the site’s data, some of the genes that have the highest number of titles are romance (19670), comedy (15826), drama (12273), yaoi, and shoujo (~10100).

Website design and Features

I was impressed by the website design as it is well-organized, and easy to navigate and the colour palletes are not too vibrant to the eyes. A big plus is that the site is in a dark theme, which is super convenient for night owl readers. Since there are no ads on Mangago, its website display will not distract you from the main focus which is manga.

As soon as you land on the home page, you will see clearly 4 colourful buttons that will direct you to its directory, completed manga, last updates and genres. You can also search manga or authors using the search bar right next to these 4 buttons. Moreover, each manga will be displayed with its chapter progress and cover, which will save you a lot of time and effort looking for a suitable manga to read.

Scrolling down, you will reach the Questions and Feeds sections. These are where users can ask each other about anything although people mostly ask about manga. I find this very useful and convenient when searching for titles that I don’t quite remember or sometimes only remember the plot. Moreover, this section is also fun because not only can we read intriguing and relaxing manga, but we also can find many like-minded manga buddies there to talk to.

Reading experience

To be honest, I enjoy the site mostly because of how organized and easy to navigate it is. You can find manga by its genes, author, name, or even summary keywords. When you click on a manga, you will see its rating by Mangago users in detail. If you are logged in, you can also save it to read later, etc. Moreover, each manga will come with a summary, photos about the manga, other manga by the same author(s), a list of chapters, and finally, comments or threads of readers about this manga. The design principles are applied very well on Mangago which is why it is very neat, clean, and easy to read.

I also didn’t experience any lagging and buffering when streaming manga on Mangago. Everything was seamless and fast on both mobile and laptop. Sometimes, Mangago undergoes maintenance so some functions might be unavailable like commenting and posting questions. However, this doesn’t affect the reading experience at all in my case.

Device compatibility

Mangago is mobile-friendly and Chromecast supported. This means that you can stream manga for free on your phone, tablet, and TV. This is super convenient as you can binge-read manga wherever you go and on whatever device as long as it is connected to the internet.

Negatives

As much as I enjoy reading manga on Mangago, I also find some drawbacks that I would like to note here.

First is the manga library. They indeed have a lot of manga here, it would take a while for me to read them all. However, some of the popular manga like Conan, Doraemon, One Piece, and Naruto,… aren’t uploaded regularly here. But this is understandable because of copyright.

Second, I couldn’t find any contact information on the site. Therefore if I encountered any problem, I don’t know how to contact Mangago but can only create a thread waiting for somebody to come and answer. However, they are not the staff in most cases.

The third is the reading interface. I find it is easier to read on mobile than on a laptop as it shows the full manga page on the former one. On laptops, it only shows half of the page because it is probably big, so I have to scroll up and down each page as well as click on the arrow to get to the next page. Although this is a simple move, it is time-consuming if you add them up as each manga has many pages.
